HGV Class 2 Winter Gritter Drivers – Kent Highways

Supreme Recruitment is recruiting experienced HGV Class 2 Drivers to support essential winter highway maintenance operations across Kent.

This is an opportunity to earn additional income throughout the winter months while helping to keep Kent’s roads safe during periods of frost, ice and snow.

The role operates on a rotating standby and call-out basis, with guaranteed standby payments during designated weeks, whether you’re called out to work or not.

How Does the Standby Rota Work?

The rota follows a four-week cycle, with two paid standby weeks and two non-standby weeks.

During your paid standby weeks:

  • You’ll receive a guaranteed £175 standby payment.
  • This payment is made even if you aren’t called out.
  • If required for gritting or snow clearance operations, you’ll also receive £20.00 per hour for hours worked, in addition to your standby payment.

During non-standby weeks:

  • There are no guaranteed hours.
  • No standby payment is made.

Over each four-week period, you’ll receive £350 in guaranteed standby payments, provided you complete your two designated paid standby weeks, plus any additional earnings from call-outs.

As winter maintenance is weather dependent, the number of call-outs will vary. Some weeks may involve no driving at all, while periods of severe weather may require additional hours.

Previous gritting or highways maintenance experience would be advantageous, but drivers with suitable HGV experience are encouraged to apply.
